Do we believe in peace? Do we like peace? What does peace mean to us?
In politics.. You have to do something... You have to act...
We have to accept the facts and move forward to try to make achievements..
A lot of people lost their lives... Israel committed a lot of crimes... We shall work hard to bring those criminal to justice... Totally believe that..
But what's next?
Just consider yourself a leader...
You do not want to shake their hands
You do not want to fight them (actually you can't)
You do not want to make peace with them
You do not even want to negotiate them
So what do you want?
If you are a leader, and you do not want to do all the above, then what's your job exactly?
You will be just sitting in your office doing nothing
BTW, nature hates vacuum.. And if you do not act, there will be a vacuum... And somebody/something else will fill it...
Let me be more clear, and tell you where I stand.
In 1993, I didn't like peace with Israelis, but I liked the achievement itself and found it good, and a step for us to create a Palestinian state in West Bank and Gaza (With Jerusalem as a capital), then move forward sometime and drop the Jews into the Mediterranean Sea. (After that we can solve the refugees problem etc)
After that, I started to release that we are not going to be able to throw anybody in the sea... Let's just work to achieve any peace that will give us West Bank and Gaza and Jerusalem, and try to find the best solution possible to the refugees problem... This is just any peace.. it doesn't have to be a real one, but anything that can help us get whatever we can get from our rights... until the balance of power changes in the future.
Nowadays, I started to think different (even different than my tribe ;) ) and I started to believe in peace... We have to live in peace with Israelis.. We do not have any choice. We have to work hard to achieve a Palestinian State and the best solution possible for the refugee problem (and solve all other major issues like settlements/border/water/prisoners etc)..
Bottom line, we have to create a real peace that is based on our rights. A peace that really ends the struggle, and educate the next generations that the struggle with the Israelis came to an end after we achieved our rights.. without the intension to destroy anybody..
Now this is not easy.. I totally agree.. and there are people from our side and their side who do not really believe in it... But if we work hard to achieve the Palestinian rights and solve the Israeli concerns, those who hesitate will follow and peace will become a fact by itself.
It is not easy also from the perspective that even Israel is not welling to give us our rights easily, which is why we need to study the current global political situation, and utilize it as much as we can in order to achieve what we want. We need to utilize the media, we need to promote dialog, we need to be open to the world, and be part of the global system, not in confrontation with it. We need to understand that we can't act as if we are alone... We are part of a big system, that doesn't move upon our request until we communicate with it openly.. It is a lot of work, but this is the best path I think
As you can see, this is really based on both sides doing their parts and both sides getting benefits...
